To create this list we took into account the amount of trails, rivers, lakes/ponds, and other outdoor activities. For people who are looking to escape the city and reset, the Adirondacks in New York is the perfect getaway. The Adirondacks are a huge region that spans across New York and includes many beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, trails, and cabins. The Adirondacks are full of cabin rentals that are available throughout all four seasons and at any price point. Whether you want to ski in the winter or kayak in the summer, a quick search and you’ll find the perfect cozy cabin.

2. Glacier National Park, Montana

If you are looking to level up your hikes and views, then the Glacier National Park in Montana might be the choice for you. Positioned in Montana’s Rocky Mountains and including more than 700 miles of hiking trails, this region is certainly a must in your lifetime. You’ll enjoy some of the most beautiful peaks and clear lakes in the entire nation. Like the Adirondacks, there are many cabins available at many different price points. This makes it perfect for any couple or family looking for an experience of a lifetime.

3. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Those who love mountain peaks in every shot, and embrace hikes with vertical climbs will love the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This area of Colorado has some of the most beautiful drives in the country and boasts 300 miles of trails. This is a great place for both the relaxer who wants great views and the explorer. There are also many cabins available to rent throughout and around the region.

Yes, we included an entire state. Maine is an ocean front state which also includes amazing inland lakes and wilderness. There are many cabins around Moosehead Lake and near the ocean (if your prefer being near that fresh lobster.) Maine has many full cabin options that can fit the entire family. If you are looking to rent in the summer season book ahead of time… these cabins fill up quick!

5. The Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee & North Carolina

The Great Smoky Mountains are another great place for people looking for a cabin escape. Called The Smokies due to a morning fog that lasts well past morning, this region is a perfect getaway to unplug. You can climb the mountains, enjoy scenic views, or even bicycle the 11 mile one way Cades Cove Loop Road. We found many cabin rentals nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains throughout Tennessee and North Carolina. While it is beautiful anytime of the year here, we do recommend visiting in Autumn when the colors are out of this world!

6. West Virginia

We chose West Virginia because there are four provinces of the Appalachian Mountain System that run through it. In West Virginia you can see The Blue Ridge, Allegheny Plateau, Allegheny Mountains, Cumberland Mountains, and the Ridge and Valley Appalachians. West Virginia is a great place for people who like to ATV. There are many ATV resorts and cabins throughout the entire state and the views are amazing.

7. Black Hills, South Dakota & Wyoming

The Black Hills region spans across South Dakota and Wyoming. The Black Hills region includes many famous sites and activities such as Mount Rushmore, Buffalo Safari jeep rides, chuck wagon cookouts, and horseback riding. Make sure you book enough days to truly experience all this place has to offer. There are many cabins for rent throughout the region that are great for the entire family. If you are looking for activities… this is a great choice.

8. Alaska

Some states are just made for Cabin Dreamers. This trip may be a bit further but it is certainly worth it. For the true outdoorsman or someone who wants the freshest of air… Alaska is the perfect place. I’m sure we don’t have to mention the fishing, hiking, wildlife, and complete wilderness that this state has to offer. We found amazing rustic cabins that were built using traditional methods and a handful of luxury stays.

9. MT. Rainer, Washington

Washington state is truly magnificent and one of its true wonders is Mount Rainer. Here you will see one of the only rain forests that exist this far from coastal area. Trails will bring you to waterfalls, clear lakes, meadows, and views that will take your breath away. There are over 260 miles of trails and 147 miles of roads with incredible views. Mount Rainer is certainly a place for the Cabin Dreamers who like to hike. You will find all kinds of cabins available.

10. Vermont

While Vermont may be known most for its skiing, there are plenty of cabins available throughout all seasons. Vermont has many larger cabins that are perfect for bringing the entire family out. Many cabins are set in private areas and allow you to truly get away.

11. Lake Superior, Minnesota

Lake Superior, Minnesota is surrounded by eight state parks. Each park hugs the bank of a river that eventually waterfalls down into Superior. If you want to go hiking you might be interested in the Superior Hiking Trail, a 296 mile long trail that goes from Duluth to the Canadian border. There are many cabins for rent all around Lake Superior.

12. San Bernardino National Forest, California

If you are on the West Coast or want to experience cabin life on the West Coast, you might want to consider San Bernardino National Forest, CA. This massive forest boasts more than 800,000 acres of beautiful California forest and big bear lake. There are many cabins available mostly around the big bear area.

13. Yosemite National Park, California

Yosemite National Park is home to the Sierra Nevada mountains and the massive sequoia trees. You’ll find beautiful waterfalls and granite cliffs as well. We found many beautiful and modern cabin rentals around Yosemite National Park. You won’t find anything like it!
